Enchanting Songs
Friday 23 May, 2014
The enchanting world of opera and song will be the highlight of this lunchtime concert, a world of drama, romance and fantasy.
Soprano Marita Bezzina will be singing some of the most well loved operatic songs written by Verdi, Purcell and Mozart, amongst others. She will be performing Purcell’s “Dido’s Lament” from his opera “Dido and Aeneas”, Puccini’s endearing “O Mio Babbino Caro” from his short opera “Gianni Schicchi” and Mascagni’s “Serenata”.
Mozart’s comic opera “Le Nozze di Figaro” will be highlighted with the performance of three arias: “Porgi Amor”, “Voi che sapete” and “Non so piu` cosa son”.
Ramona Zammit Formosa will be accompanying the pianist and performing some piano pieces such as Delibes’ “Flower Duet” and Verdi’s “La Donna e` Mobile”.
The lunchtime concert will be held at the charming 17th century Oratory of St. Francis in Republic Street, Valletta! These increasingly popular lunchtime concerts are held every Tuesday and Friday at 12:30 pm. The baroque Oratory, which hosts the performances, is an exquisite venue which complements the fine music. The events are also fund raising events for the Franciscan Church. Tickets for the lunchtime concerts, costing 8 euros, can be obtained from the venue itself half an hour before the concert begins.
