La Vita e` Bella - a flute and harp recital

Barocco Foundation, in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa, is delighted to present an enchanting lunchtime recital featuring the renowned harpist Anne Marie Camilleri and acclaimed flautist Fiorella Camilleri. This concert will take place on Tuesday, 29 April 2025, at 12:30 pm at Our Lady of Victory Church, Valletta—a venue renowned for its historical charm and exquisite acoustics.

The carefully curated programme showcases a diverse selection of works, blending classical elegance with evocative cinematic themes. The recital begins with Gaetano Donizetti’s Sonata, a composition that highlights the lyrical beauty of the flute and the delicate accompaniment of the harp. This is followed by Frederic Chopin’s Variations for Flute on a Theme by Rossini’s Cenerentola, a dazzling display of virtuosity inspired by Rossini’s celebrated opera. The first half also features Franz Schubert’s Ständchen, an intimate and expressive piece that has captivated audiences for generations. Jules Mouquet’s La Flûte de Pan (movements 1 & 2) brings mythological storytelling to life with its dreamy, impressionistic harmonies, while Jacques Ibert’s Entr’acte, with its lively Spanish influences, concludes the first part of the concert.

The second half of the recital takes the audience on a journey through iconic film scores and beloved classics. An Ennio Morricone medley brings together some of the legendary composer’s most moving themes, including Deborah’s Theme, La Califfa, Cinema Paradiso, and La Vita è Bella, each piece evoking deep emotion and nostalgia. This is followed by Pietro Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, a work of operatic grandeur that resonates with passion and drama. The charm of Franz Lehár’s Lippen Schweigen from “The Merry Widow” adds a touch of Viennese elegance, while Astor Piazzolla’s Libertango infuses the programme with the fiery intensity of Argentine tango. The concert culminates with two contemporary masterpieces: Ramin Djawadi’s “Game of Thrones” theme, an epic and hauntingly beautiful composition, and Hans Zimmer’s Now We Are Free from “Gladiator”, a deeply moving and cinematic finale.
