A Triad of Voices

Music lovers are invited to a delightful lunchtime concert set to take place on Tuesday, 15th April 2025, at the historic Our Lady of Victory Church in Valletta. This enchanting recital, organised by Barocco Foundation in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa, will feature the talents of sopranos Bettina Zammit and Lisa Baldacchino, alongside tenor Tom Armitage. The trio will be accompanied by the pianist Steve Buttigieg.

The carefully curated programme promises to captivate audiences with a rich blend of classical and lyrical pieces, offering an emotive journey through different periods and styles.

The audience will be treated to the profound emotion of Tu Fosti Tradito by Mozart and the baroque elegance of V’adoro Pupille by Handel. The soulful depth of Chanson Triste by Duparc and the haunting beauty of Youkali by Weill.

Lyrical charm takes centre stage with the youthful Je Veux Vivre by Gounod and the gentle serenity of Sleep by Gurney. Listeners will also be enchanted by the iconic and ethereal harmonies of The Flower Duet by Delibes.

The programme continues with the witty and whimsical Old Sir Faulk by Walton, contrasted with the heartfelt passion of O Mio Babbino Caro by Puccini. The romantic warmth of Hat dich die Liebe berührt by Marx brings an intimate touch, culminating in the sublime farewell of Soave Sia Il Vento by Mozart.

Besides enjoying the enthralling music, the Church of Our Lady of Victory itself is worth a visit. Seeping with history and rich in architecture and artistic works, mainly due to it being the first church of Valletta and its painted baroque ceiling by Alessio Erardi, Our Lady of Victory is one of Malta’s richest treasures.  Built by Grand Master de Valette and the Order of St John after their victory in the Great Siege of 1565, it has been restored by Din l-Art Ħelwa, voluntary National Trust of Malta. 

After the concert, patrons are invited for free to the cellar of the church to watch a short audio-visual show about the building, history and the restoration of this gem.
