Love and Valentine's Day

Love and Valentine's Day

Barocco Foundation, in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa, invites you to a captivating lunchtime concert at the historic Our Lady of Victory Church in Valletta on Tuesday, 11th February at 12:30 pm. This delightful recital will feature the talented soprano Anne Marie Gauci Agius, who will be accompanied by pianist Galina Antariuk. Together, they will present a programme filled with emotional depth and musical elegance, showcasing a rich variety of works from celebrated composers.

The concert will begin with Ivor Novello’s My Dearest Dear, a beautifully lyrical piece that sets the tone for the programme. Roger Quilter’s Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal follows, offering a delicate, tender reflection on the passage of time. Continuing with the German Romantic tradition, the duo will perform Robert Schumann’s Widmung and Der Nussbaum, both of which highlight the depth of Schumann’s expressive melodic lines. The Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg’s Ich Liebe Dich adds a rich, passionate dimension to the programme.

The French repertoire comes to the fore with Ernest Chausson’s Le Colibri, a delicate and evocative piece, followed by two of Claude Debussy’s masterpieces: Beau Soir and Nuit d’Étoiles, both of which exemplify Debussy’s exquisite harmonic language and lyrical beauty. The concert then turns to the Italian tradition, with Francesco Tosti’s Vucchella and Ideale, both of which offer heartfelt expressions of love and longing.

The programme also includes some beautiful Maltese contributions, with Zerniq, Għodwa, and Festa providing a touch of local flavour and cultural richness. The concert concludes with a fitting tribute to Valentine’s Day, as Quilter’s ’Tis Valentine’s Day wraps up this captivating afternoon of music.
