Barocco Foundation is thrilled to invite you to a delightful concert in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa, featuring promising soprano Michaela Agius accompanied by talented pianist Elaine Mercieca. This recital takes place at the beautiful Our Lady of Victory church Valletta, on Tuesday 5 November at 12:30pm.
The concert will open with Gabriel Fauré’s “Nell” Op.18 No.1, a romantic and evocative piece. Following this, enjoy selections from Francis Poulenc’s “Air Chantés” FP 46, a delightful set of songs full of wit and charm. The programme will also feaure, “Villanelle” from “Les Nuits d’été” Op.7 No.1 by Hector Berlioz, a piece renowned for its lush melodies and evocative poetry. This captivating programme continues with “Soleil, fuis des ces lieux” from J.P. Rameau’s opera “Platée”, offering a taste of the Baroque era’s elegance. This will be followed by a piano interlude by the talented pianist.
This performance will conclude with the moving “All mein Gedanken” Op.21 No.1 by R. Strauss, followed by the heartfelt “An die Musik” D547 by F. Schubert, a piece that celebrates the power of music and C.M von Weber’s lively and spirited rendition “Kommt ein schlanker Bursch gegangen” from his opera “Der Freischütz”. Michaela will also be singing a song by Britten from his song cycle “On the Island” and the classical and witty aria from Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni Batti, Batti, o bel Masetto.
