Barocco Foundation in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa presents inspiring violinist Matthew Zammit accompanied by talented pianist Amy Borg for an enchanting lunchtime concert which will take us across the European continent through the delightful sounds of the violin and piano. This concert will take place at the magnificent Our Lady of Victory church in Valletta on Tuesday 28 November 2023 at 12:30pm.
This enthralling recital includes Austrian pieces by Frtiz Kreisler namely Liebesfreud and Romario Schön together with Beethoven’s timeless Sonata in F major from the Spring Sonata. From Germany the accomplished musicians will then take us to Spain to enjoy the rhythmic movements of Symhonie 2 and 3 by E. Lalo. This musical journey will conclude with La Ronde de Lutins from the Italian composer Antonio Bazzini.
The Church of Our Lady of Victory, with its painted ceiling by baroque artist Alessio Erardi, is the first church of Valletta and a magnificent setting for the cultural events. It was built by Grand Master de Valette and the Order of St John after their victory in the Great Siege of 1565. It has been restored by Din l-Art Ħelwa, voluntary National Trust of Malta.
After the concert, patrons are invited for free to the cellar of the church to watch a short documentary about the building, history and the restoration of this gem.
