Barocco Foundation in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa will be presenting emerging soprano Gabrielle Portelli accompanied by versatile pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa during a lunchtime concert at Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta on Tuesday 25 April 2023. This recital starts at 12:30pm.
The sacred music programme starts with Laudate Dominum by W.A. Mozart, Quia Respexit by J.S. Bach and C. Franck’s Panis Angelicus. Ramona will play some piano intervals namely Tochter Zion, Freue Dich by G.F. Handel, Sonata in C – Cimarosa, Pascaglia by Handel-Halvorsen and an Intermezzo: Ave Maria by P. Mascagni. The programme proceeds with A. Lloyd Webber’s Pie Jesu, Amazing Grace by J. Newton and G.F. Handel’s O Mio Signor. This delightful recital concludes with Ave Maria by M. Lorenc, Jesu, Joy of Mans Desiring by J.S. Bach and E. Morricone’s Nella Fantasia.
The Church of Our Lady of Victory, with its painted ceiling by baroque artist Alessio Erardi, is the first church of Valletta and a magnificent setting for the cultural events. It was built by Grand Master de Valette and the Order of St John after their victory in the Great Siege of 1565. It has been restored by Din l-Art Ħelwa, voluntary National Trust of Malta.
After the concert, patrons are invited for free to the cellar of the church to watch a short audio visual show about the building, history and the restoration of this gem.
Divine Harmony: A Sacred Music Afternoon will be held at Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta on Tuesday 25th April 2023 at 12:30pm. Entrance to the concert is at a suggested donation of 10 euro.
