Soprano Hannah Bonnici will be giving an iridescent and interesting cross-cultural performance at a lunchtime concert to be held at the Oratory of St. Francis on Tuesday 3rd May 2016 at 12:30pm. The soprano will be accompanied on the piano by Irina Fedcenko-Carbonaro.
“Crossing Borders – Classical Arias” is a performance that will present an eclectic and remarkable programme with a special emphasis on the songs of Austrian composer Franz Joseph Haydn. The concert will continue with the works of Spanish 20th century composer Fernando Obradors. Soprano Hannah Bonnici will also sing a song from her native Malta by one of the country’s best composer- Carmelo Pace. The programme will carry on with a song by American George Gershwin and finally by German Romantic composer Carl Maria Von Weber.
Soprano Hannah Bonnici was born in 1993 in Malta. Her seven years of studies at the Johann Strauss School of Music commenced under the direction of Mezzo-Soprano Clare Massa and for the last five years with Latvian opera singer Karmen Radovska. In 2013 Hannah became a member of the Manoel Theatre Youth Opera and took part in several concerts with aspiring Maltese opera singers. The following year, she participated in the International Vocal Masterclass in Ventspils (Latvia) and was selected to perform during the City Festival’s opening concert with Maestro Aigar Meri conducting the Festival Orchestra. In 2015 she made her debut as Belinda at the Manoel Theatre in Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas directed by Johnathan Cocker and conducted by Alice Farnham. Hannah is currently completing her Master of Pharmacy at the University of Malta whilst continuing her vocal training.
Irina Fedcenko-Carbonaro was born in Ukraine. She studied music with Professor Jurgis Karnavicius at the State Academy of Lithuania. After winning a scholarship Irina furthered her studies in Portugal with renowned pianist Miguel Borges Coelho at Escola Superior de Musica e Artes des Espectaculo do Porto. In 2005, she graduated with a Masters Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. She is the winner of several national piano and chamber music competitions. She has performed several piano concertos with the Lithuanian Symphony Orchestra. To date, she regularly performs in private and public concerts both as a piano soloist and accompanist. Since 2011, Irina has been living in Malta, fully dedicated to teaching piano performance and accompanying classical singers. She also forms part of Johann Strauss School of Music Malta team of specialised music educators.
