The Ingmar Piano Duo will be giving a performance at the Oratory of St.Francis of Assisi in Republic Street, Valletta, on Tuesday 9th February 2016 as part of the Valletta Piano Festival. The duo will be giving a four-hand piano performance.
Ingmar Piano Duo was founded in 2005 by two pianists - Slobodanka Stević and Aleksandar Gligić in Novi Sad, Serbia, and is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. In 2006, their first CD was published by the Viennese piano manufacturer Wendl&Lung for the Austrian market.
In the year 2009, the Duo was awarded the highest prize at the International Piano Competition ROMA 2009, in Rome, Italy, under the Frederic Chopin Foundation, as well as the Special Sergio Calligaris Prize, for the best performance of a piece by this contemporary Italian composer.
In 2010, they qualified among 7 best piano duos in the International San Marino Piano Competition. The Duo has so far collaborated with many prominent artists and teachers: Duo Turgeon (USA), Duo Kanazawa/Admony (Japan, Israel), Jeni Slotchiver (USA), Vladimir Ogarkov (Russia), Svetlana Bogino (Russia), Dorian Leljak (Serbia), etc.
Ingmar Piano Duo has made recordings with the Serbian National Broadcasting, Radio Novi Sad, San Marino Televisione and Televisione Vaticana. Slobodanka Stević and Aleksandar Gligić are the recipients of the Annual Achievement Award from the National Association of Music and Ballet Professors of Serbia for the year 2010.
In 2011 and 2012, Ingmar Piano Duo implemented a series of concerts under several projects focusing on world premiere performances of Serbian contemporary music for two pianos in Serbia and in a wider context. These projects were officially supported by the Government of Vojvodina Province, the National Association of Composers and Authors, the City of Novi Sad and the Provincial Culture Institute.
In
2013, Ingmar Piano Duo published a new CD with the premiere works by
contemporary Serbian composers, specially composed or arranged for the Duo, to
positive critical acclaim and reception with the audiences nationally and
abroad. The release was supported by the City of Novi Sad, the Provincial
Government of Vojvodina and the National Association of Composers SOKOJ.
In 2013, the Duo was the recipient of the prestigious annual "Iskra" (Spark of Culture) Award, awarded by the Provincial Institute for Culture to prominent artists under the age of 35.
During the ten years of intense and continuous work, Ingmar Piano Duo has developed a special affinity towards the work of new creators in music and composing, visual arts and stage art, as well as towards new concepts of music, multimedia and interdisciplinary cooperation and synergies. Among those concepts of collaboration is the promotion of unknown talented creative minds of music and design.
The music performances will take place in the baroque Oratory, which was originally the friars’ refectory. Over the years, it had been transformed into an oratory; hence it is beautifully adorned by magnificent baroque paintings, an elaborate gilded altarpiece and original monks’ benches. The oratory is usually closed to the public; therefore the lunchtime concerts are a wonderful way to experience the fabulous music and the beautiful chapel.
The regular performances present varied performers and musicians, who present sparkling and stimulating classical music on a weekly basis. The events are fund raising events for the Franciscan Church, which is undergoing extensive structural restoration. Tickets for the lunchtime concerts, costing 8 euro, can be obtained from the venue itself half an hour before the concert begins. For more details phone 7968 0952 or email: baroccomalta@gmail.com
