Chanson d\'Amour

Chanson d'Amour

Chanson  d’Amour

Soprano Dorothy Baldacchino will be giving a sparkling recital at a lunchtime concert to be held at the Oratory of St. Francis on Tuesday 27th October 2015 at 12:30pm.

“Chanson d’Amour” is a performance that will feature, as its title implies, songs of love – romantic songs from operas and also, spiritual songs of love. The elegant and striking choice of programme of classical songs of love will be an asset for the soprano Dorothy Baldacchino who sings with a clear and remarkable voice.

The programme includes Mozart’s arias Un moto di gioia and  Una donna a quindici anni, as well as two leading arias by Handel: Endless Pleasure and  E’gelosia quella tiranna.  The programme will continue with Faure`’s aria Chanson d’Amour, Granados’ El majo discreto and finally two sacred aris to represent divine love: Pie Jesu` and How beautiful are the feet.

The lunchtime concerts are aimed at giving a platform to local and foreign artists and, it gives the opportunity for the audience to experience the charming oratory.  The oratory has an interesting history as before the main church was enlarged in the beginning of the 20th Century, the large chamber was used as the refectory for the religious community. It was then transformed into an oratory, adorned by magnificent baroque paintings, a magnificent gilded altarpiece and original monks’ benches.

The events are fund raising events for the Franciscan Church, which is undergoing extensive structural restoration. Tickets for the lunchtime concerts, costing 8 euro, can be obtained from the venue itself half an hour before the concert begins. For more details phone 7968 0952 or email: baroccomalta@gmail
