Cosi` Fan Tutte

Cosi` Fan Tutte

Cosi` Fan Tutte

Arias, Duets and Ensembles from Mozart’s opera buffa “Cosi fan Tutte” are going to be performed at Villa Bologna on Wednesday the 26th of November at 7:30pm. The performance is going to feature excerpts of the opera which is one of Mozart’s famous works.

“Così fan tutte, ossia La scuola degli amanti” (Thus Do They All, or The School for Lovers), is a two-act Italian- language opera buffa  by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It was first performed in 1790 and Lorenzo Da Ponte, who also wrote “Le nozze di Figaro” and “Don Giovanni”, wrote the libretto. Mozart and Da Ponte use the theme of "fiancée swapping", which dates back to the 13th century. Furthermore, it incorporates elements of the myth of Procris as found in Ovid's Metamorphoses, vii, which brings forth the theme of testing one’s fiancé` under disguise.

The opera starts in a cafe, where Ferrando and Guglielmo, who are two officers, express certainty that their fiancées (the sisters Dorabella and Fiordiligi, respectively) will be eternally faithful. Don Alfonso joins the discussion and lays a wager with the two officers, claiming he can prove in a day's time that those two, like all women, are fickle. The wager is accepted: the two officers will pretend to have been called off to war; soon thereafter, they will return in disguise and each attempt to seduce the other's lover. The theme of the opera is the relativity of human feelings and acting. This was the new order, which Mozart and da Ponte tried to put on stage, with the result that only the balance of head and heart are required for relationships.

The performance which will feature the arias, duets and ensembles by the cast of singers who are under the musical direction and moderation of  Dr. Hans - Jürgen Nagel and the vocal guidance of Andriana Fenech Yordanova at opera studio Atelier Liryque.
