Enchanting Songs and Arias

Join us for a captivating lunchtime recital of eclectic songs and arias featuring emerging and talented soprano Mariette Borg and gifted pianist Elaine Mercieca.  This concert, organised by Barocco Foundation in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa, is being held on Tuesday 30 January 2024, at the magnificent church of Our Lady of Victory, Valletta and starts at 12:30pm.

 

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of classical music with a programme that includes an eclectic choice of operatic arias, bel canto arias and songs from musicals.

 

The programme kicks off with Giunse alfin il momento....Deh vieni, non tardar from ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’, the emotive Oh Quante Volte, from ‘I Capuleti e i Montecchi’ by V. Bellini and the charming Adieu, Notre Petite Table from ‘Manon’ by J. Massenet. Continuing this enchanting journey, this concert will also feature the mesmerising melodies Beau soir and Nuit d’étoiles, both by the French composer C. Debussy.

 

The programme will further unfold with the celestial Měsíčku na nebi hlubokém (Song of the Moon) from ‘Rusalka’ and the heartfelt Songs my Mother Taught Me from ‘Gypsy Songs’ by A. Dvořák. Elaine will play a piano solo namely Les Sylvains Op.6. by C. Chaminade.

 

Concluding this charming programme the talented performers will give us the enchanting Die Nacht by R. Strauss, the sweet lullaby The Little Horses as well as the timeless simplicity of Simple Gifts by A. Copeland from ‘Old American Songs’ and the iconic Somewhere from ‘West Side Story’ by L. Bernstein.

 

Enchanting Songs and Arias will be held at Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta on Tuesday 30 January 2024 at 12:30pm.
