For the Love of Music!

For the Love of Music!

Barocco Foundation, in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa, is proud to present Czech soprano Zdeňká Kotová who will be coming to Malta to sing at this lunchtime concert. She will be accompanied by versatile pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa at Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta, on Tuesday 17 October 2023, starting at 12:30pm.

Ms. Kotová will be singing some of the world’s most beguiling arias penned by various  European composers, ranging from Italian Verdi, German Händel, Russian Rachmaninov and N. Rimskij-Korsakov to Czech A. Dvořák.

This delightful eclectic programme opens with F. Schubert’s Ave Maria and Piangeró la sorte mia from Giulio Cesare by G.F. Handel followed by Zdes khorosho by S. Rachmaninov.  The recital proceeds with Oriental romance no. 2 by N. Rimskij-Korsakov and El Vito, a Spanish folk song.

For the Love of Music proceeds with Tutte le Feste al Tempio from Rigoletto by G. Verdi, Hlásej ptáč from ‘The Kiss’ Quando Me n’vo from ‘La Bohéme’ together with two songs by Dvořák. Pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa will perform piano solos as musical interludes.

The Church of Our Lady of Victory, with its painted ceiling by baroque artist Alessio Erardi, is the first church of Valletta and a magnificent setting for the cultural events. It was built by Grand Master de Valette and the Order of St John after their victory in the Great Siege of 1565.  It has been restored by Din l-Art Ħelwa, voluntary National Trust of Malta.

After the concert, patrons are invited for free to the cellar of the church to watch a short audio visual show about the building, history and the restoration of this gem.

For the Love of Music will be held at Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta on Tuesday 17 October 2023 at 12:30pm. Entrance to the concert is at a suggested donation of 10 euro.  One can obtain the tickets prior to the concert from the venue itself or by email: baroccobookings@gmail.com or phone 79680952.
