Sacred Arias

Soprano Hannah Bonnici will be giving a performance at a lunchtime concert at the Oratory of St. Francis in Republic Street, Valletta on the 12th of May 2015 at 12:30pm.  The concert will be focusing on sacred arias.

 

The soprano will be singing some well-beloved and extraordinary beautiful sacred arias.  She will be singing Georg Handels I know that my Redeener Livet(The Messiah) and Oh! Had I Jubals lyre! (Joshua). She will follow with Mozarts Laudate dominum and she will ensue with J.S.Bachs Blute Nur(St.Matthews Passion), and his Ave Maria arranged by Gounoud.

 Furthermore, Ms Bonnici will be singing a Maltese arias by Maestro J.Vella Ave Maria and then she will delight her audience with her rendition of another Ave Maria by W.Gomez. Finally she will end her recital with C.H. Gabiels His eye is on the sparrow.

Ms. Bonnici will be accompanied by Irina Fedčenko-Carbonaro who will be performing Bachs Prelude BWV 1007

Soprano Hannah Bonnici was born in 1993 in Malta. Her passion for singing began at a young age, leading her to join Cantores Sancti Juliani (Malta Childrens Choir of the European Union) and later, the Joseph Calleja Children's Choir from which she was selected to sing with Joseph Calleja himself. Her six years of studies at the Johann Strauss School of Music commenced under the direction of Mezzo Claire Massa and for the last four years with Latvian opera singer Karmen Radovska. In 2013 Hannah became a member of the Manoel Theatre Youth Opera and took part in several concerts with aspiring Maltese opera singers. In the summer of 2014, she attended the International Vocal Masterclass in Ventpils (Latvia) and received coaching from established Latvian and British opera tutors. She was selected to perform during the City Festival's opening concert with Maestro Aigar Meri conducting the Festival orchestra. Hannah is currently in her fourth year of Pharmaceutical studies at the University of Malta and is simultaneously continuing her vocal training.                                                       

The baroque Oratory was originally the friars refectory.  Over the years, it had been transformed into an Oratory, hence it is beautifully adorned by magnificent baroque paintings, an elaborate gilded altarpiece and quaint monks benches. The oratory is usually closed to the public and the lunchtime concerts are a wonderful way to visit and enjoy the beautiful chapel.  Presently it is hosting weekly music recitals every Tuesday, providing a platform for some of the best musicians performing on the island. 

The concerts are also fund raising events in aid of the Franciscan Church, which is undergoing restoration. Tickets for the lunchtime concerts, costing 8 euro, can be obtained from the venue itself half an hour before the concert begins. For more details phone 7968 0952 or email: baroccomalta@gmail.
